Emptying the Barn March 11-15, 2008
The pole barn at the Kitsap Fairgrounds is open for public display each year at the Fair. The floor of the barn is dirt, with display platforms against the walls. Most of the artifacts are wooden or metal and subject to deterioration because of dampness and other earth-related causes. A concrete floor would be wonderful. Fred Hill Materials got the ball rolling by volunteering to donate the concrete. This set in motion a series of other donations by other generous businesses. Precision Concrete agreed to donate the concrete finishing. Hill Moving and Storage donated two large trailers to use as storage containers during the transition. Museum volunteers Mark Williamson, George Willock, Paul Middents and Eric Dahlberg each volunteered many hours over many days to document and move items, and do all sorts of tedious and unpleasant chores to make sure the job got done and done well.
